- 10-10.30am: Introduction by Christopher Clouder, founder of the Alliance For Childhood
Lecturer Christopher Clouder is one of the fathers of educational innovation and will speak about the current state of well-being among children around the world. Christopher is the founder of the Alliance for Childhood and has started new schools all over the world. His counsel has been requested by several governments and school boards. Christopher used to work as CEO for the European Council for Steiner Waldorf Education.
- 1030-10.50 am: ‘How can we orchestrate the ‘Improvement of the Quality of Childhood in a Town, a Country or in the European Union’ by Michiel Matthes, Chairman and co-founder of the Alliance for Childhood European Network Group. This is a network of 29 member organisations in 16 European countries. The motto of the group is: ‘Improving the Quality of Childhood in Europe’. Michiel Matthes is also the driving force behind the Working Group on the Quality of Childhood at the European Parliament. The power of fantasy thinking, the book of children’dreams and creative entrepreneurship, Bjorn Accoe, social entrepeneur Idee Kids
Bjorn Accoe is a social entrepreneur with a big heart for children. He will speak about the power of fantasy thinking, the children’s dreambook and creative entrepreneurial sense. Annually he coordinates the ideekids camps for thousands of families and is very active in projects for giving voice to children and their dreams.
Learning in image, sound and movement, Briony Vanden Bussche
How can we motivate children who are school tired? Children are yearning for dry study material to be made alive; they want to feel, hear … and they also want study material that stimulates their talents and social skills, a curriculum through which they can explore themselves and their identity.
Learning whilst singing and moving? The Ron Clark School in America has been doing it successfully for years! Briony, Manager of the Primary School Butterflywise and trainer in the Butterflywise Coach Education, developed quite a lot of musical education material to put to use; from learning the multiplication tables, the alphabet, the spelling rules to talent dream travels. During this introduction, you’ll get an overview of the rainbow talent project as well as getting acquainted with other teaching materials.
Research with and by pupils, Gijs Verbeek
Gijs Verbeek, in cooperation with Petra Ponte, wrote the book ‘Participation in Education “. He is an editor and researcher at the NIVOZ Forum ((www.nivoz.nl en www.hetkind.org)). Additionally, Gijsis active both inside and outside the NIVOZ, enabling student participation and research with and by students and teachers.
In this workshop we want to work with your wishes and ideas to give students more voice regarding what is happening in and around the school and how best to bring this project to fruition. Based on a number of principles and by practical examples, we shall work with you in this workshop towards concrete plans with actions that you shall be able to apply in your unique practices.

Get your brain moving, Barbele Kindt
During this workshop we’ll give you an insight into the impact all kinds of stress can have on the functioning of the brain. These blockages are often labeled ‘disorders’ (i.e. learning disabilities, dyslexia, discalculia or math disability, social disorders, autism spectrum syndrome …). We’ll take another look at these ‘disorders’ and we’ll give you tools to handle them in a different way. We’ll experience how we can break through the blockages using some simple excercises. The excercises will enable the different parts of the brain to cooperate, to function better together. This will enable both children and adults to access and develop their innate potental. These excercises can be done easily in class, at home or at work. They don’t take up space nor do you need specific materials.

How to handle highly sensitive teenagers and children, Ann Michiels
Sensitive children and youth have a finely tuned nerve system. The stimuli from their environment leave a deep imprint on them and they need extra quiet time to process all these imressions in peace.
Therefore, sensitive children and youth function in a special way. Their sensitivity can be felt as a burden or as a gift, depending on the way we deal with them.
An Michiels, who is specialised in dealing with high sensitivity, will speak to you about all of this and she’ll give you numerous tips that you’ll use on a daily basis.

That is what PresentChild translating can offer. It translates children’s messages into an opportunity for growth in the lives of their parents, teachers or other involved adults. Lessons taken to heart and acted upon have a tremendously positive effect on children.
The method is a tried and tested means of facilitating well-being in families and other areas of society where adults and children interact (schools and day-care centres).

The power of healing stories – Ann Ackaert
This workshop will start with a bit of theoretical background about the development of children’s brains and the importance of stories. An explanation is then given about what is so specific for healing stories and how they are structured. Based on a sample story and some short exercises, participants gain more insight into the how and what of healing stories.
A Healing Story is a concept, developed by Paul Liekens and Ann Delnoy to enhance the inner strength of children through imagery and imagination. The technique has its background in NLP, but was adapted for children.
In essence, the inner imagination of the child (or adult) is stimulated to think in a ‘problem solving’ way. It is mainly part of our brain which is accessed, providing us with more ‘out of the box’ solutions. Throughout the story we feed the imagination with positive elements and feelings, provinding the right tools to handle challenges or problems.

About Janusz Korczak and his children. They say he never lied. Never. And certainly not to children, his children, the children of the orphanage he ran with Stefania Wilczynska. Children deserve respect, so you don’t fool them. Children know just as well as adults when they have done something wrong. Listen to them, let them speak. And do give them a serious answer – because children are people. People who are entitled to their own lives. And to their own death.
But what do you do when eventually even their life will be taken from them? Do you explain to them where their travel will take them? First to the ghetto, then to the Umschlagplatz, then to Treblinka? What do you tell them? Because you cannot lie. Certainly not to children.
Mieke Felix (o1952, Ostend) studied drama and elocution at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp, Art History at the University of Ghent, theology and religious sciences at the Catholic University of Leuven. Her project KAHAANIVertellingen, are her attempt to save those stories “that matter” from silence, from being forgotten.
Children are not listening: And now? A click with each child in the class…
Do you have a click with each child in your class? Do you think a child feels it when there is no click? What and how would you feel if a child came to you and said:; ‘Miss/Sir, I miss a click in our relationship!’ Children should feel safe in a class biotope if they are to develop, grow and flourish. But then, the teacher too, needs that. In this inspirational class, we dive into the image language a child uses to mirror us. They have and want to tell us something. You’ll get an insight into the reason why children don’t seem to listen to us. We’ll tell you about the ‘stapler machine’ theory and Yves will invite you to look at children in a different way. You’ll be challenged to make a click with your whole class.
Natural learning and holistic education with Anna Pavlova, Russia
Anna Pavlova worked 9 years in the Tekos school in Russia and is now sharing her experiences abroad.
The Transition time passed. The year 2016 has come… Do we know how to behave in a new time? what laws work now and what has become completely irrelevant? Many “innovators” pull the tails of past savings, and irrelevant information. It does not give the energy of the Future to come and realize its potential.
New education…How does it look like? What kind of children came to us? Are the “methods of teaching” themselves so necessary for these children. Or it is time for us to rise above our fears, stereotypes-to look at the world in another way, because the vibration of the space has been updated, and they require a new style of behaviour. Teachers argue about the techniques: faster and more efficiently…How to motivate? What is the methodology?
It’s time to ask yourself: What are these children? Who do we want to grow up? Whether the child Himself wants to be GIFTED in Our normal understanding? And what’s his real brain activity, not our perception of it. Where are we headed? (What must be the real result) What will happen after school? What should be the daily environment? And what is holographic education? All of these we will discuss at the seminar.
